The Effects of the Acceptance & Commitment Therapy Model on the Middle School Students' Test-Anxiety

Abstract
This study explored the effects of the ACT(acceptance-commitment therapy) on the test-anxiety of the middle school students. The 20 students were randomly assigned as control and treatment group. To explore the changes between pre and post test anxiety of each group. AAQ, ATQ-N, K-TAI and Test Coping Behavior Scale were used. ACT program was independent variable. Process factor(acceptance and action, negative automatic thoughts) and outcome factor(test anxiety and test) which was relevant with test anxiety were dependent variable. The results are as follows; First, there was significant difference between treatment and control group. The treatment group which experienced ACT had efficacy in alleviating negative automatic thoughts, and increasing acceptance behavior. Second, the test -anxiety was reduced, but the test-coping behavior was increased. Third, the effect size of ACT program on the middle school students are as follows; acceptance behavior¡µtest-anxiety¡µnegative automatic thought¡µtest-coping behavior. In conclusion, it is supposed that ACT have positive effects on reducing the middle school student's test-anxiety and increasing appropriate test-coping behavior.
